Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Finale Episode 23 - Anime Recap & Review

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Finale Episode 23 - Anime Recap & Review
The recap of the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 23 begins where the Episode 22 has ended. Yuki currently questions "Geto" about recalling their conversation from eleven years ago. Both of them desired to establish a world where cursed spirits cease to exist. Despite the approach, Yuki is certain that humans will progress to their next stage, which, in her view, involves breaking free from cursed energy. Pseudo-Geto contends that the advancement can only occur through optimizing cursed energy. Yuji, partially frozen and utterly bewildered, admits his lack of comprehension of either method and wonders about Yuki's identity.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Finale Recap

Geto asserts that he believed Yuki abandoned her method when Toji Zenin died. Yuki counters, highlighting a significant flaw in Pseudo-Geto's approach, stating that only the people of Japan can benefit from Tengen and the optimization of cursed energy. She warns that a monopoly on cursed energy in Japan could trigger reactions from other global superpowers, leading to chaos that diverges significantly from the envisioned world Yuki and Geto once discussed.

Pseudo-Geto laughs and discloses that his objective differs entirely from Yuki's. He perceives sorcerers, non-sorcerers, and cursed spirits as potential forms of cursed energy, all reflecting the image of human beings.

Additionally, he believes there is more untapped potential in humans. During his time as Noritoshi Kamo, he created the Death Painting Wombs in an attempt to unlock that potential. However, Pseudo-Geto is skeptical that his creations will surpass the limits of his own potential. He acknowledges that the only way for him, the eccentric sorcerer, to achieve his goal is by unleashing uncontrollable chaos.

Already having extracted Mahito's innate technique, Pseudo-Geto readies to activate it. Yuki swiftly comprehends the curse user's intent and questions Yuji about the fate of the soul-manipulating cursed spirit.

Yuji discloses that Pseudo-Geto absorbed Mahito, leaving Yuki disheartened. Pseudo-Geto forcefully slams his palm onto the ground, creating a sizable seal marking. This sets in motion a remote activation of a cursed technique, catching Yuji off guard.

Expressing gratitude to Yuji for aiding Mahito in reaching his potential before absorption through Cursed Spirit Manipulation, Pseudo-Geto explains that any technique obtained in this manner ceases improvement once the original user is absorbed.

He reveals his desire to acquire Jogo's abilities as well. Yuki inquires about his actions, prompting Pseudo-Geto to unveil his use of Idle Transfiguration on two distinct groups previously marked with the same seal he just cast. Tsumiki Fushiguro is among those affected, having now awakened in her hospital room.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Recap

The first category consists of non-sorcerers marked as vessels, who had ingested cursed objects similar to how Yuji incarnated Sukuna. The second category includes individuals whose brains were originally intended to be non-sorcerers, like Junpei Yoshino.

Through Idle Transfiguration, Pseudo-Geto modified their brains, enabling them to wield jujutsu and develop innate techniques. For those who ingested cursed objects, Geto granted them the strength to serve as proper vessels.

While some individuals have remained in a profound slumber since being marked by Pseudo-Geto's cursed energy, they are destined to awaken soon and engage in battles to enhance their understanding of cursed energy. Carefully selecting participants for this chaos, Pseudo-Geto likens it to unleashing a thousand malevolent versions of Yuji.

However, Yuki doubts that a mere thousand people will suffice to drive humans to kill each other. Pseudo-Geto assures her that he hasn't overlooked such a crucial aspect, much to Yuki's irritation. She implores Yuji to assist in taking down the curse user, but the Jujutsu High student remains frozen from Uraume's earlier attack.

Suddenly, the ice surrounding Yuji and others begins to melt, freeing them from their immobilized state. Pseudo-Geto queries Uraume about the issue, and they deduce that they've been poisoned. Choso reveals that his blood carried the poison, transmitted when Piercing Blood connected with Uraume's defenses.

Momo Nishimiya suggests the possibility of more enemies, given Mai Zenin's absence after firing her sniper shot. Yuki discloses that she has been buying time for Larue to position himself to protect Mai, Aoi Todo, and Arata Nitta. Panda regains mobility and checks on Noritoshi's well-being, receiving assurance that regulating body temperature is not a concern. On the other hand, Atsuya Kusakabe remains on the ground, disheartened by the events of the prolonged day.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 23 Review

Interrupted multiple times, Pseudo-Geto asserts that he is still speaking. The cursed objects he provided were fashioned from vows he made with sorcerers a millennium ago. However, these vows became void when he acquired Suguru Geto's body. Yuki grasps the implications just as Pseudo-Geto announces that this is the world of the future.

Several cursed spirits suddenly emerge from the curse manipulator as he presents Prison Realm to Yuji. Yuji urgently calls out his sensei's name while the curse user expresses high expectations for the Jujutsu High student.

As Pseudo-Geto vanishes into the darkness and departs, he directs a question to Sukuna, inquiring if the ancient curse is listening. Pseudo-Geto confidently declares the return of the golden age of jujutsu, announcing the imminent commencement of a world reminiscent of the Heian Era.

An overhead view of Tokyo unveils a massive dead zone in the city. Jujutsu Headquarters engages in discussions about the dire situation, revealing that the twenty-three wards have suffered extensive destruction, with only a few areas remaining unscathed. Plans are set in motion to create an evacuation strategy for the five million residents, estimating that approximately ten million cursed spirits have been unleashed.

Among those present, astonishment arises at the proposal to evacuate the entire area, prompting concerns about potential consequences. Suggestions include expanding the two barriers to the prefecture's boundaries, while others worry about revealing the existence of cursed spirits to the public.

Reassurances are given that sorcerers are safeguarding evacuees within the city, and the idea is floated to inform the public that cursed spirits are confined to Tokyo. As worries about potential foreign military intervention surface, a heated debate ensues on how to effectively manage the unfolding crisis.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 23 Recap

In a convenience store, a young girl kneels on the floor, indulging in various food and drink items. Suddenly, she notices a creepy figure in the doorway, urging her to come and emphasizing the danger. The figure also mentions enticing activities like hot baths and singing songs.

When the girl inquires about her mother, the figure cryptically replies that her family, including mom, dad, big sister, little brother, and teacher, are all present. The girl, however, denies having a little brother and expresses dislike for her teacher. The figure merely echoes her words, leaving the girl perplexed. Offering a drink, she steps outside the store, only for an enormous, cursed spirit with razor-sharp teeth to reveal itself, pulling away the decoy and preparing to devour her.

Suddenly descending from above, Yuta appears and swiftly stabs the creature in the head with his katana. Sporting a smile, he reassures the girl, ensuring she's unharmed and inquiring about her family. She replies that she doesn't know, prompting Yuta to note the area, observe her worn-out shoes, and ask if she has walked a long distance.

As Yuta commends her, the creature unexpectedly rises again, opening its mouth to devour him. However, it is forcefully thrown back and splattered against a wall. Yuta, shielding the girl's eyes, politely asks Rika not to go overboard.

Later, Yuta meets with higher-ups who commend his efforts. Bluntly, he urges them to get to the point, asserting that they know he will obey their orders. One of them chuckles, stating that his prowess against cursed spirits proves nothing. Yuta suggests entering a Binding Vow, indifferent to the person being Gojo's student. Referring to Yuji's actions in Shibuya, he vows to personally kill him.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Finale ends on a cliffhanger with five significant announcements follow. First, Geto is confirmed alive and sentenced to death again. Second, Gojo is considered an accomplice in the Shibuya incident, facing permanent exile. Removing his seal is deemed a criminal act. Third, Masamichi is to be executed for inciting Gojo and Geto during the Shibuya incident. Fourth, Yuji's execution will resume immediately. Lastly, Yuta is appointed as Yuji's executioner.
