Anime Recap: Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 starts
with Suguru Geto walking through dim alleys, searching for cursed spirits in a
bustling summer with frequent apparitions. Along this alley, Suguru discovers a
cursed spirit devouring a deceased man and swiftly assimilates it with his Cursed
Spirit Manipulation. He feels he alone comprehends the arduousness of absorbing
curses, enduring the repugnance they carry. Since "that day" in 2006,
he's been repeating morally centered affirmations to maintain composure.
In the same year, Grade
1 sorcerer Mei Mei and Grade 2 sorcerer Utahime Iori embark on a mission to
inspect a haunted mansion with supernatural occurrences and missing individuals
in Hamamatsu City. Driving to the location, an assistant manager, and Utahime
readies herself to cast a curtain. Mei Mei intervenes, asserting it's
unnecessary as they'll expel the curse within. Entering the abandoned house,
they observe the debris and grime scattered in every room. Utahime, uneasy,
agrees to Mei Mei's suggestion to explore separate floors.
As they investigate, Mei
Mei stays composed while Utahime is frightened. They reunite on the same floor,
and Mei Mei reveals passing the same garbage trail multiple times. Utahime
speculates if the cursed spirit ensnares them in its domain. Mei Mei, noting
the unchanged environment, explains the domain as a manifestation of the
mindscape—a barrier likely used to trap the cursed spirit's victims.
Mei Mei expresses
confidence that the targeted cursed spirit is weak and can be exorcised once
they break free from the barrier. As a way of testing Utahime, Mei Mei inquires
about the best course of action. Through repetitive pacing down the hallway,
Utahime deduces that the corridor isn't circular but a straight line, with the
barrier patching together as they move. She suggests breaking the barrier by
sprinting at top speed, and Mei Mei approves, giving the idea a score of ninety
out of a hundred. Mei Mei adds the suggestion of running in opposite
directions, enhancing the plan.
Putting their strategy
into action initially seems successful. However, Utahime soon realizes the
entire mansion is being torn apart by an unknown force. Jumping outside, she
survives beneath rubble. After the building's destruction, she finds her
junior, Satoru Gojo, who rescued her. The barrier distorted their sense of
time. After two days, second-year Tokyo Jujutsu High students—Satoru Gojo,
Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri—were dispatched as reinforcements.
Utahime scolds Satoru
for recklessness, and a giant cursed spirit emerges to attack her. Suguru
employs an even larger curse to immobilize it within its mouth. He advises
Satoru not to tease Utahime, though it turns into light-hearted banter. Utahime
greets Shoko warmly, the one she's happy to see, warning her not to become like
the boys. Shoko assures Utahime that she won't end up like Satoru and Suguru,
dismissing them as garbage.
Mei Mei calculates that
she'll receive two days' worth of labor pay for this assignment and inquires
about the curtain from the students. Satoru, Suguru, and Shoko are perplexed,
as no one among them erected the barrier. Returning to Jujutsu High, Masamichi
Yaga admonishes his students, questioning who among the trio claimed they would
set up a curtain but left their assistant manager behind and forgot to cast it.
Suguru and Shoko promptly point fingers at Satoru, who comically attempts to
talk his way out of it. Masamichi delivers physical punishment, and the
students move on to recreational time in the gym.
While Shoko plays with
Satoru's glasses, he asserts the lack of necessity to conceal jujutsu from
non-sorcerers. Satoru finds protecting the weak tiring, while Suguru believes
it's the duty of every jujutsu sorcerer. Satoru mocks Suguru's ideals,
escalating their conversation in tension. Shoko escapes, and Suguru summons a
curse, threatening Satoru to take the conflict outside. Satoru retorts with a
witty remark just before Masamichi enters, revealing a new mission. The two
"strongest" are to escort the Star Plasma Vessel to Master Tengen and
eliminate her.
Satoru and Suguru are
puzzled by the "erase her" aspect and mock Masamichi for his inflated
ego. Satoru is also confused about the Star Plasma Vessel and its connection to
Tengen. Masamichi and Suguru explain that Tengen's innate technique requires
refreshing by merging with a Star Plasma Vessel; otherwise, they could become a
threat to humanity. The vessel's location is compromised, with two groups of
curse users pursuing them: Q and the Time Vessel Association. Masamichi reveals
the merger is scheduled for two days from now and officially assigns the
students the task of protecting the girl and safely escorting her back to
Jujutsu High.
Satoru and Suguru depart
from school, and Satoru questions why the Time Vessel Association would be
pursuing the Star Plasma Vessel. Suguru clarifies that they are a group of
non-curse users who consider the merger as impurity to their deity. They reach
the hotel where the vessel is residing. Suguru enters to secure them, while
Satoru stays outside. They stay in contact through the phone, with Satoru
overly confident about why he was chosen for this mission. As Suguru approaches
the target's room, he admonishes Satoru for his arrogance.
Suguru rings the
doorbell, and a girl responds that she's on her way when a sudden explosion occurs.
Using a cursed spirit as a shield, Suguru witnesses the girl falling from the
building. Summoning a flying cursed spirit, he catches her before she plummets
to her death. Q soldier Kokun arrives to confirm the kill, holding the vessel's
attendant, only to be met with Suguru's taunts. Meanwhile, another Q soldier,
Bayer, hurls several knives at Satoru while he's still on the phone. The knives
are halted by his Infinity technique, and Bayer acknowledges Satoru,
recognizing his famous name. Satoru challenges him, stating he won't kill Bayer
as long as the curse user begs for mercy.
In a nearby skyscraper, two men, Shiu Kong and a man he calls "Zenin," observe Q's attempt to assassinate the Star Plasma Vessel. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 ends on a high note as Shiu Kong offers Zenin a contract to eliminate the vessel. Zenin, now going by "Fushiguro," accepts the job.
