SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 4 Anime Recap

During lunch, Anya and Becky converse about the upcoming term, where students will reportedly be segregated based on their academic performance. Anya is perturbed by this news. Becky then shares a rumor hinting that tomorrow's quizzes, particularly in Classical Language, will influence this division. The girls chance upon two boys gossiping about the limited sale of the renowned Pastries of Knowledge in Dining Hall 2, prepared by a former royal chef visiting that day. According to the tale, consuming one ensures a path to becoming an Imperial Scholar, capturing the interest of Anya and Becky, prompting them to head to the dining hall.

Anya envisions the prospect of attaining genius status through this culinary experience, while Becky eagerly anticipates savoring macarons crafted by a former royal chef. Upon arriving, they spot a line of students eagerly waiting for the pastries. However, Damian and his friends, sharing the same goal, swiftly join them. The server announces the last order of the special "Pierre Pommier Macaron" set, leading both groups to vie for the final set, only to be stunned when George Glooman has already claimed it.

Damian and Becky hastily approach George, insisting that he hands over the macarons. In response, George attempts to voice his objections, but the kids remind him of an outstanding debt. Reluctantly, George agrees to relinquish four macarons from the set of five.

Realizing there are five kids in total, they opt for a game of Old Maid to settle the distribution. Anya, unfamiliar with card games, navigates the rules for the first time but astoundingly wins using her mind-reading abilities. Damian and his friends, astounded, accuse her of cheating. Fearing that Anya might genuinely read minds, she suggests another round, intentionally making mistakes and ending up with the Old Maid. Anya's transparent facial expressions make it impossible for her to discard the Joker card. As everyone else successfully sheds their cards, only Anya and Damian remain.

Anya panics at the prospect of not securing a macaron, which could potentially affect her test results and place her in a different class from Becky. As Damian is poised to draw a card, he notices Anya tearing up. Moved by this, he takes the Old Maid card, willingly losing the game.

Upon receiving her macaron, Anya extends a friendly gesture, offering to share half with Damian. However, Damian, overcome with embarrassment, angrily rejects her offer. Emile, Ewen, Becky, and Anya proceed to enjoy their macarons. After partaking in the pastry, Anya becomes invigorated with fiery determination, dedicating herself to intense studying until the upcoming quizzes.

When the quiz results are revealed, Henry displays Anya's scores, which turn out to be disappointingly similar to her previous performance. This leaves Anya and her friends in disbelief. In an attempt to lift Anya's spirits, Becky consoles her, encouraging her to make a comeback during the finals.

Back at home, Loid and Yor examine Anya's quiz papers while she retreats to her room feeling disheartened. Loid observes that Anya could have excelled in her Classical Language test if not for numerous spelling mistakes. Pondering how Anya performed so well, given the limited coverage of Classical Language in class, Loid momentarily wonders if her upbringing played a role. Deciding to set aside these thoughts, he informs Anya that he prepared her favorite hamburg steak for dinner, bringing a smile to her face. Yor adds that she attempted to make dessert, prompting Bond to express canine horror.

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Recap

Loid heads to Franky's store to gather intel for an additional mission. He requests some pictures, but Franky reveals that his contact specializing in that information fell victim to Garden, an assassin group in Ostania affiliated with the shadow government and considered urban legends. Undeterred, Loid insists on obtaining the pictures. However, Franky proposes a deal – he'll provide the requested intel in exchange for Loid helping him with an unusual task: finding a missing cat named Kopi, belonging to a woman named Kacey, whom Franky is trying to impress. Uninterested in such a trivial matter, Loid dismisses the idea and leaves.

Franky, determined to locate Kopi, turns to his contacts and discovers the cat's proximity to city hall. Along the way, he encounters Yor on her lunch break. After explaining the situation, Yor decides to lend a hand. Using Franky's inventions and a catnip device, they attract a swarm of cats, including Kopi. Despite Franky's attempts, he fails to catch Kopi, prompting him to deploy his exo-skeleton power suit. As Kopi heads towards a busy street, Yor tears off a piece of the exo-skeleton, throwing it to stop the cat and allowing her to capture him.

Returning Kopi to Franky, they discover that Kacey already has a boyfriend. Franky, though disappointed, wishes the couple well and resolves to dedicate himself to his work. While leaving, he sheds tears over the lost decade of his creations. Yor, in a cheerful mood, returns to city hall. Camilla and Millie notice her high spirits and speculate if Loid bought her something nice. Annoyed at Yor for enjoying herself, they jest that perhaps she's found happiness in being normal. When Sharon suggests Yor is content because she's become normal, Yor excitedly embraces the notion.

SPY x FAMILY Season 2 Episode 4 concludes on a cliffhanger as Yor basks in her joy, a man in a suit informs her of a phone call, revealing it's from her special contact. Answering the call, the mysterious caller dubs her Thorn Princess and discloses a new "client."
