Shangri-La Frontier Episode 3 - Anime Recap

Anime Recap: Shangri-La Frontier Episode 3 starts where the Episode 2 has ended. Rei meets Reiji and Mia, asking if they've seen a player named Sunraku. Reiji confirms and explains he got poisoned by the Ravenous Snake and encountered Secondil. Describing Sunraku as naked with a bird mask, Reiji mentions Sunraku might have acquired some gear by now.

Rei realizes Sunraku skipped the first town. She thanks them and leaves. Recognizing her clan emblem, Reiji notes it focuses on hunting the unique monster, Lycagon the Nightslayer. Mia, unfamiliar with unique monsters, learns they are a special class that doesn't respawn when killed. Reiji explains there are seven unique monsters, known as The Seven Colossi, but the criteria to spawn them is unknown. Top players form clans to take them down, but despite a 30 million playerbase and a year since the game started, none of the unique monsters have been defeated.

Sunraku confronts the unique monster Lycagon the Nightslayer. Facing Redcap Goblins, Sunraku realizes a single hit from Lycagon could defeat him. Despite his Perfect Parry and counter-attacks, Sunraku's strikes prove ineffective. Grateful for learning Perfect Parry, Sunraku equips the Vorpal Choppers, landing critical hits on Lycagon. Dodging skillfully, he lands a second critical hit.

However, Lycagon vanishes, reappearing behind Sunraku, who narrowly dodges the attack. The battle continues, with Sunraku dodging every attack for about five minutes. Although he lands numerous critical hits, they seem ineffective, and his Vorpal Choppers lose durability. Sunraku realizes Lycagon is beyond his current capabilities but enjoys the challenge. After more critical hits, Lycagon stops, howling.

Suddenly, Sunraku is immobilized, and in an instant, Lycagon strikes, cutting Sunraku's legs. Surprised to survive with 1 HP, Sunraku acknowledges Lycagon's incredible strength, programmed to be unbeatable. Sunraku decides to focus on beating Lycagon, regardless of the last boss or story. As Lycagon bites him, Sunraku vows to defeat it, but Lycagon kills him and applies the Lycagon's Mark curse.

Upon respawning in Secondil's inn, Sunraku discovers a curse affecting him. The curse hinders him from equipping armor in the cursed area and offers several effects: monsters lower than his level will flee, new conversation options with NPCs are available, cursed body parts gain resistance to magic, and the curse can be removed by a Saint or by defeating the curse caster. Frustrated by the inability to equip armor, Sunraku deems it a frustrating aspect of the game.

Despite not defeating Lycagon, the battle boosts his experience to level 28. With 50 points to allocate, Sunraku plans to refine his build but inadvertently invests points elsewhere, avoiding Vitality. Realizing he unintentionally became a glass cannon due to the curse locking two of his four armor slots, he deems investing in Vitality pointless. Relying on his high Luck stat, Sunraku believes it's the reason he survived Lycagon's attack with 1 HP.

A moment later, a bunny lands on Sunraku's head and playfully waves at him. Recognizing it as a Vorpal Bunny, albeit a bit different, Sunraku wonders if they spawn in town. Intrigued, he decides to follow the bunny, speculating that capturing it might yield a rare item. The bunny leads him to a dead-end alley where a door suddenly materializes on the wall.

As the bunny enters, Sunraku pauses to read the door, discovering it's a Unique Scenario titled "Invitation from Rabituza." Recalling his readings about unique quests with mysterious scenarios and undisclosed unlock conditions, Sunraku realizes the potential for obtaining top-quality equipment, skills, and spells. Excited by the early encounter with such a quest, he eagerly enters the door, oblivious to the fact that the recommended level is 80.

Sunraku suddenly finds himself in Rabituza, a town bustling with vorpal bunnies. The bunny he encountered earlier, named Emul, appears and warmly greets him. Emul expresses admiration for Sunraku's courage in facing the Nightslayer and landing numerous perfect blows without taking a hit, considering it an embodiment of the vorpal soul.

The mark left by Lycagon on Sunraku signifies that the wolf sees him not as mere prey but as a kindred being. Emul, acting as a messenger, explains that their boss wishes to meet Sunraku, and that's why she was sent to bring him.

Concerned that it might be about him accidentally harming vorpal bunnies, Sunraku asks Emul about the reason for the meeting. Emul assures him that their boss, Vysache, isn't seeking petty revenge. As they reach the palace, Emul notes that while many visit Rabituza, Sunraku is the first to enter the palace, making him realize that he's the only one who has encountered this unique scenario.

Inside the palace, Sunraku finally meets Vysache, the boss of Rabituza. Shangri-La Frontier Episode 3 ends on a cliffhanger as Vysache expresses joy that someone has not lost hope and the vorpal soul after facing Lycagon.
